In September Hurricane Irene caused extensive damage to the east coast, especially Nags Head. The storm didn’t damage most of the nice vacation homes – just the homes of those in poverty; just the individuals and families who have it hard enough. As if this wasn’t bad enough, FEMA funds can’t touch the exgagerated costs of labor contractors are now charging to repair their homes. This is where we can help.

If you want to party hard and forget any good times you have over spring break – you can do that. But if you really want to make a difference, help someone in need, and remember an amazing time … the people of the Outer Banks would really appreciate it. Plus, the NC Outer Banks isn’t a bad place to spend spring break.

Details

Cost: $50 + $20 insurance ($70 total trip)
Registration Deadline: February 16 deadline
Dates: Saturday March 3 – Saturday March 10
Limit: 30 Students

Haitians faced the adversities of life on a daily basis even before a devastating earthquake struck January 2010. Although Haiti was devastated with the massive earthquake of 2010 there is hope in the midst of struggle. We have an opportunity to help restore some of this hope to this broken region. Our May 2010 Haiti Mission is not for the casual traveler. If you feel that you have a strong sense of service to others, work well under pressure, have an incredible amount of patience and flexibility handling the toughest situations, and a tug at your heart to make a difference then you may just be qualified.

Trip Date

Trip 1: May 13-May 20 … set between UNC Charlotte’s graduation and the first day of summer session 1. Ideal for UNC Charlotte and Central Piedmont Students.

Steps to Take

Complete our Interest Form. This is not a registration of the trip. It just will keep you in the loop. Everyone who wants to go must complete this form. Once you do this, we will send more info about officially registering for the trip.

Watch some quality videos about Haiti.

Our Haiti Portal … links that you should probably consider.

A letter just for your parents.

Thoroughly read our trip packet.

Costs

Airfare: We estimate airfare from Charlotte to Port-au-Prince to cost $750. We can’t lock any rate in until we can secure enough deposit funds with the airline. This takes commitment on your part. A $100 deposit is absolutely necessary as soon as possible.

Mission Costs: A fixed amount of $750 (Trips 1 and 2) will cover all ground transportation, food and lodging, interpreters and guides, entry and exit visas, trip insurance, and project costs.

Personal Costs: This includes souvenirs, food you buy in addition to three daily meals, the personal costs of obtaining a passport, or any medical costs incurred for your needed physical.

Safety

Safety is our top priority. The accommodations and food are both very carefully selected. This will be our fifth trip to Haiti and our 30th mission trip since 2000. Our mission sites, guides, and lodging facilities are as safe as possible, clean, and comfortable.

Chris’ House is our intentional living community. Intentional in that residents of Chris’ House participate in a rule of life that is intended to lead toward Christian transformation. We believe that the rule of life assists in answering the call to make disciples of Jesus Christ in not only transforming our lives but transforming the world.

Part of the rule of life is being sent to the surrounding community. Some of the activities of the House include:

Neighborhood Bible studies and hospitality nights

Reaching out in presence, action and word to our neighbors who suffer.

Helping neighbors who are aging with chores and home needs.

Tending a community garden in the backyard.

In return for living this rule of life diligently, Chris’ House offers some amazing rates to offset the high cost of the University City area. If you are interested in this place of residence, send us an email at leader@campus-ministry.org
